WELCOME TO THE KITCHEN SECTION
Cooking is always a very popular activity...... I wonder why? But we still manage to share out (most of) the food at the end of the day! You're sure to enjoy a culinary treat – From a gooey cake which is a fusion of cookery and art to a vegetable Christmas tree.
The kitchen is designed as 3 small kitchenettes to allow up to 6 young people to work in the room in pairs. Activities are designed to
- introduce young people to kitchen equipment and cookery techniques
- encourage young people to try new tastes and foods and be aware of nutritional value of different ingredients
- show young people where food comes from
- encourage the sharing of equipment and, of course, the food we make.
It’s always a treat for everyone at the end of the session to go to the front door to be greeted with a taste of courgette cake or a fruit salad parcel.
We have also hosted ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ sessions for teenagers, an Indian Cookery course for a local community group and some truly memorable recipes cooked as part of Walker Technology College’s Memorable Curriculum week! |
