About Us

Our Story

Kids Kabin is a small North East charity established in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1994. Today, our workshops are open to all young people aged 7-13. Young people aged 13-16 progress to become youth leaders. We know that young people living in some neighbourhoods in the North East have less opportunity to take part in positive activities than others. Workshops are focused in:

  • Walker, Byker and Cowgate in Newcastle

  • Grove Hill, Easterside, Saltersgill and North Ormesby in Middlesbrough

  • East County Durham towns and villages

Our Vision

Children and young people in the North East are creative, confident, and active members of society.

Our Mission

To provide free, accessible and safe creative and practical after school and holiday workshops in community settings, enabling young people to learn new skills, share these skills with other and grow in self-confidence and ambition.​​

Central to Kids Kabin are the following principles:

  • Youth led, giving young people Choice and control of the creative process.

  • Building on young people’s potential and finding something they are good at and they enjoy.

  • Learning by doing, hands on, practical and creative. Using practical challenges to build resilience and a growth mindset

  • Inclusive and accessible, by removing barriers and taking workshops out onto the streets.

  • Collaborative through joint working with charities, businesses and the community.

  • Sustainable, promoting cycling, walking, growing, repairing and getting off screens!
