Year 10 Work Experience Spotlight: Marcus

Last week, our Newcastle team was joined by Marcus from Whitley Bay High School, who completed his year 10 work experience with us. Before leaving, we sat down with him to hear about his week and how he found the experience.

What’s been your favourite activity this week?

Woodwork. I really like helping the kids with different tools, but honestly they are already quite independent and able to do a lot of it themselves.

What activities have you been a part of, and what is one thing you’ve tried at Kids Kabin that you’ve never done before?

I haven’t really done much gardening before this, but I’ve really taken that up since getting here and I’ve really enjoyed it.

What’s been one of the most surprising things you didn’t expect to learn at Kids Kabin?

I never thought I would be interested in gardening. It’s actually been really fun, and we’ve had perfect weather for it too.

What’s your biggest takeaway from this experience?

Learning about how best to support the kids in the different activities they’re interested in.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing their work experience here?

Definitely give it a shot. It might be out of your comfort zone, but just try it. It’s really fun to try new things and new ideas.
