Kids Kabin has again been chosen to be part of the Tesco Community Grants Scheme, and we'll need your votes throughout the next few weeks to help fund some spare parts for our Big East End Bike Fix project, which gets underway very shortly.
As part of the scheme, from now until the end of March, we need all Kids Kabin supporters to visit one of three local Tesco stores to vote for our Big Bike Repair project. With enough support, our young people will benefit from £1,500 for spare parts to help kids learn to fix their own bikes, and prevent unwanted bikes going to landfill.
This follows our brilliant recent news that we hit our target for the Big East End Bike Fix project, which starts in Byker and Walker in the coming days.
A reminder about the project
From February 2023, thanks to amazing support from 46 incredible backers who together raised almost £7,000, the Big East End Bike Fix project will take weekly bike repair workshops to the streets of Byker and Walker for a year, in partnership with Recyke y'bike, with additional mobile pop-up sessions running from April to October.
Kids will work out what needs fixed, select and reuse spare parts (that we'll buy with the money we receive from Tesco Community Grants voting!), and learn how to use a variety of bike tools confidently and safely.
Not only will they develop new skills, but they’ll work together to help each other, and they'll be able to borrow toolkits to help them to put their learning into practice between sessions.
What do we need from you?
To vote for us and our Big Bike Repair project, you'll need to buy anything of any value in any of the following Tesco branches between now and the end of March 2023:
Tesco Express on the West Road in Newcastle
Newcastle upon Tyne Tesco Extra in Kingston Park
Tesco Express in Chapel House.
You'll get a blue token you can use to vote by posting it into the Kids Kabin Big Bike Repair project unit at the checkout area.
You'll get a new token for every transaction you make between those dates, so the more visits you make, the more chances you have to vote for our kids!
So make a note in your diary and spread the word!
