It was business as usual at the Kids Kabin AGM this week (November 18th, 2024), in the form of an archery challenge to shoot zombies and, inspired by the fact that I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! has hit our screens again from Australia, there was an opportunity to try dried salt and pepper locusts if you got the general knowledge question wrong!
Thanks to the 60 or so individuals that ventured out on a freezing November evening – including kids, their parents and friends, our staff, trustees and other volunteers, as well as representatives from some of our partner organisations – all of whom joined in with the bushtucker zombie challenges and the tombola, before tucking into cakes and Congolese doughnuts.
Clockwise from top left, these images show one of our members demonstrating one of the zombie challenges, Kids Kabin's youth leaders having been presented with their special recognition awards by Chief Officer Will Benson, our founder and trustee Sister Christine Charlwood meeting one of the evening's youngest participants, staff member Nikki Crow, who is one of our Project Development Workers, with one of our newest board members Courteney Cartwright, and one of the intricately-designed cakes that were enjoyed as part of the festivities.
It was then on to the official business with a review of the year gone by, which was a record-breaking one for Kids Kabin and also marked our 30th birthday, and saw us expand our work into two new areas in East Durham!
An update was also shared on our plans for the future, and all of this has been captured in our 2023/4 Annual Report, along with further details about our finances.
We were proud to round off the evening with special awards presented to our youth leaders – Alaina, Kacee, Sienna, Doreen and Alexa, and to some of those individuals and organisations that have gone the extra mile in support of Kids Kabin over the last 12 months, namely Recyke y'bike, Off The Grid Adventures CIC, Northumberland Wildlife Trust and our many community volunteers.
There are countless people upon whose support we simply couldn't do without – far too many to mention in one post, but our heartfelt thanks go to each and every one of you for helping Kids Kabin to reach another milestone year!
